The Last Billboard

The Last Billboard, 2013. Public artwork for billboard in Pittsburgh, PA.
The Last Billboard was a project curated by artist Jon Rubin for a public billboard in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania at the intersection of Highland Avenue and Baum Boulevard in the neighborhood of East Liberty. A 12-feet-by-36-feet steel frame billboard held letters, arranged by hand, with phrases written by different artists solicited to place a message on the billboard for one month at a time.
I decided that I wanted my message to be functional: perhaps it could say something that was often difficult to say in private in a very large, very loud, and very clear public manner. In this way, a person could use the billboard as a useful prop to express something they were struggling with saying.
The text read:
The person standing beside you, pointing at this billboard, has brought you here because it was too hard to say "I am sorry" out loud.
